Friendship, My Jesus Year Challenge

Day 15 – WCW: Poopinana

After writing my post a few days ago about having dinner with my friend Shaki, I got it into my head that I could (should?) use the ever popular Woman Crush Wednesday and Man Crush Monday hashtags to post about people in my life that inspire me. While most of them won’t be international celebrities, they are the stars in my life that bring entertainment, fulfillment, love, and joy. What could be better than that?

My inaugural Jesus Year WCW is going out to my friend Ana! (I already know she’s cringing behind her computer.)

Ana and I met 15 years ago (almost to the day) during our freshman year at NYU. We were neighbors (shout out to 5th Floor Rubin) and became fast friends. (That is after she and her roommates got over my resting bitch face and decided I wasn’t THAT scary.) Throughout college our squad had its ups and downs, as you’d expect from any group of college kids crossing over into adulthood in Manhattan. As crazy as I know we could make each other then, and occasionally in the years since (what’s up getting kicked out of The Griffin), the foundation has remained unshakable because it’s built on love.

You, my dear Ana, are my first WCW because you deserve to know in writing how amazing you are. Too often I think you let yourself forget how much you have to offer this world and what you mean to the people in your life. You are the person who let me nickname her Poopinana, who held me freshman year when my world was rocked by the death of my friend Shelly, who tried to give me a piggy back ride past a bunch of rats on 10th street but toppled over because I weigh two of you, who has made the cross country trek for my birthday (twice!), who I can talk to about anything without judgement, and who will (God wiling) be my neighbor again soon. I think you’re the bees knees, and you better know it, babe!

There are so many great quotes about friendship, and a lot of them apply to us. But for the sake of this post, I’ll pick one…

“A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.”
― Elbert Hubbard

Over the years we’ve seen our share of the good, the bad, and the ugly, but our friendship is a beautiful thing I will always treasure.
