Gearing up for Thanksgiving

Halloween is over, and after two – count ’em TWO – trick or treaters, I’m left here eating the remaining 600 pieces of candy as I count down the days to Thanksgiving.

I’m especially looking forward to turkey day this year, as it will be the first Thanksgiving I’ve spent in my hometown in 11 years. I would hoard vacation days so that I could go home for about 10 days over the Christmas and New Year holidays the entire time I lived in California. I’m thankful to be living close enough to my family that I can go home for each and every holiday I choose, while saving vacation days for “real” vacations.

It’s a bit of a cliche to talk about the importance of family this time of year, but after meeting with a new Wish child (and his single mom) over the weekend, I was especially reminded of it. Having loved ones that will show up for you, no matter what, is one of the greatest gifts a person can be given. I sure am thankful for mine.
